Das find ich mal witzig: Lenkov will den Namen eines Clubs in der Serie verwenden, und damits keine rechtlichen Probleme gibt, lässt er im Internet recherchieren, wobei sein Assistent dann über einen Club stolpert, der "Book 'Em, Dan'o" heisst. Er setzt sich in Verbindung mit denen, und dann tauschen sie Shirts aus.

Internet search connects Denison business with Hollywood

A surprise telephone call on January 7 from Paramount Studios to Book ‘Em Dan’o in Denison illustrated how the internet has made the world smaller.

The call to Book ‘Em Dan’o, a club in Denison, was from Ryan Mannix, assistant to Peter M. Lenkov, an executive producer for the new “Hawaii Five-O” television police series that airs on CBS at 9 p.m. Central Time. The series is shot at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

Mannix stated in a phone call Thursday with the Denison Review that Lenkov was looking for a name that could be used for a club on the series and wanted a name that would be clear of legal entanglements. He assigned Mannix to do some research on the internet.

That’s when Mannix came across the name “Book ‘Em Dan’o,” which is similar to a phrase made popular by the television show – “Book ‘em Danno!”, an order from Detective Steve McGarrett to his second-in-command, Danny Williams, to arrest a suspect.

Mannix told his boss about the Denison club’s name and was asked to place a phone call.

Doris Solberg, manager of Book ‘Em Dan’o, thought someone was playing a prank when she answered the phone and heard a man say he was from the “Hawaii Five-O” television show.

But this was confirmed soon after when Mannix called again for Book ‘Em Dan’o owner Kellie Lemon.

“I saw the name ‘Paramount Studios’ on our caller ID,” said Lemon.

Mannix told the Review, “Peter (Lenkov) asked me to contact Book ‘Em Dan’o to see if they had any T-shirts.”

He ordered 20 of them.

The shirts, which Lemon is sending, will be distributed to the “Hawaii Five-0” writing staff and producers, said Mannix.

He added that Scott Caan, who plays Danny “Danno” Williams on the show, will also get one of the shirts.

Mannix has been in contact with Book ‘Em Dan’o a couple times since his initial phone call. Lemon has received “Hawaii Five-O” T-shirts and a “Hawaii Five-0” poster signed by the show’s cast, the director of the pilot show and the executive producer.

“I’m still in awe and shock over this,” said Lemon, who has owned Book ‘Em Dan’o for a little more than a year.

She stated that Book ‘Em Dan’o got its name from a former owner, Dan Schneider, who now lives in Carroll.

The club had been named Fat Albert’s but Schneider changed the name in 1986 or 1987 after he purchased the business from Lloyd Hansen, Lemon said. The name change was associated Schneider’s first name and with the “Hawaii Five-O” phrase made popular by the first series that starred Jack Lord as Detective Steve McGarrett and aired for 12 seasons from 1968 to 1980.

“It is so cool that our shirts will be in California on the Paramount Studios lot,” Lemon said.

She added, “It sounded like they would keep our address and phone number and that we’ll send things back and forth. I think it’s a great thing for a small town like Denison to have a phone call like that.”

Lemon continued one wish she has is that the cast and crew from the television show would someday visit Denison.

“That would bring publicity to the community,” she stated.

Jean Smart plays Hawaiian Governor, Patricia Jameson, with a straight face. She offers McGarrett the chance to lead his own crack team of crime-busters to eradicate her State of crims. He’s initially reluctant, but will soon be given the impetus to take her up on her offer and handpick his team. Amongst the team are former cop and school pal Chin Ho Kelly, played by Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim. Given he is actually of Korean-US descent it’s becoming clear this show requires a suspension of disbelief. Check the fake rain and the very dry McGarrett walking in from a downpour, and you’ll know what I mean. But the best is saved for Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan) whose ringtone from his wife is the Psycho shower theme. Williams is a tough guy whose soft spot is his single daughter. His first scene with McGarrett, a Mexican standoff, quickly establishes an abrasive relationship between the two. This bubbles along nicely across the episode, with crackling dialogue and humour. The final member of the troupe is Kelly’s cousin, the smokin’ hot, surfin’ police graduate Detective Kona Kalakaua (Grace Park). Sexy chick with gun and surfboard? Look out, Nikita. Throw in hip-hop music, sweeping aerial shots, a chase, shooting, fist fights, explosions, a high use of golden filters …. I’m just about ready for an Hawaiian kitchen sink. But it’s all good. Crime procedural plots (and the odd signposting) aside, this is a show that looks set to make the most of it action and the buddy rapport between its two lead men. There is also some fun to be had teasing us with the “Book ‘em, Danno” line and its derivation. O’Loughlin fits the action hero like a glove, and after two short-lived US series, deserves a big, broad hit. US ratings would suggest he has found one, or rather, that the US has finally found him. Mit seinen beeindruckenden Bergen und Palmen ist dies eindeutig ein hawaiianischer Schauplatz. In der Szene sieht man McGarrett in Kontakt mit Erzfeind und terroristischem Drahtzieher Viktor Hesse, der seinen Vater mit vorgehaltener Waffe in Hawaii bedroht. Sag bye bye dad. Nachdem er den Schuss gehört hat, ist Steve McGarrett erfüllt vom Bedürfnis nach Rache, das zweifellos durch die ganze Serie mitschwingt.
Das ist das Stichwort für die Erkennungsmelodie (die noch nicht ausrangiert wurde).

Jean Smart spielt die hawaiianische Gouverneurin Patricia Jameson mit einem ernsten Gesicht. Sie bietet McGarrett die Chance, mit seinem eigenen Team ihr Land von Kriminellen zu säubern.
Am Anfang zögert er noch, doch dann gibt es bald einen Anreiz für ihn und er nimmt ihr Angebot an und wählt sein Team aus.

Unter dem Team sind der ehemalige Polizist und Schulfreund Chin Ho Kelly, gespielt von Lost´s Daniel Dae Kim. Da er tatsächlich koreanisch-amerikanischer Herkunft ist, wird deutlich, dass man in dieser Show nicht zuviel nachdenken darf. Betrachtet den falschen Regen und den knochentrockenen McGarrett, der durch den Regenguss spaziert, und ihr versteht, was ich meine.

Aber das beste ist reserviert für Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan), der gespeicherte Klingelton von seiner Frau, die Titelmelodie der Psycho-Duschszene. Willams ist ein harter Kerl, dessen empfindliche Stelle seine einzige Tochter ist. Seine erste Szene mit McGarrett ist eine Mexican standoff ( Konfrontation zwischen zwei bewaffneter Parteien, bei der keiner dem anderen traut und die Waffen niederlegt) und erreicht eine schnelle aggressive Beziehung zwischen den beiden. Diese sprudelt weiter nett durch die ganze Episode mit knisternden Dialogen und Humor.

Das letzte Mitglied der Gruppe ist Kelly´s Cousine, verdammt heiss, die surfende Polizei-Absolventin Detective Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park). Heisse Braut mit Pistole und Surfbrett? Achtung, Nikita.

Hip-Hop Musik, beeindruckende Luftaufnahmen, eine Jagd, Schießereien, Faustkämpfe, Explosionen, ein hoher Einsatz von goldenen Filtern.........Ich bin schon fast bereit für eine hawaiianische Küchenspüle. Aber es ist alles gut.

Neben der üblichen formelhaften Polizeiarbeit, setzt die Show auf Action und die Partner-Beziehungen zwischen den beiden führenden Männern.

Da ist auch etwas Spaß dabei, uns mit dem Original-Spruch „Book ´em, Danno“ zu necken.

Der Action-Held passt genau zu O`Loughlin und nach zwei kurzlebigen US-Serien verdient er einen großen Hit. US-Ratings deuten es an, dass er einen gefunden hat oder eher, die USA hat ihn endlich gefunden. Caan kann ihn vielleicht noch übertreffen.

Das ist eine Testosterongesättigte, rauhe Polizei–Show, die durch ihre eigenen Regeln lebt. (ironischerweise gab es schon vor vielen Jahren mit Miami Vice in Florida ähnliche Dinge).
Wenn sie halb so lange überleben wie das Original, sollten sie sich glücklich schätzen.

Diesmal wird Alex wohl auch im eigenen Land die Chance kriegen, länger als nur paar Folgen zu sehen zu sein. Witzig, wie sich das wiederholt, sogar die selben Sätze. Haben die Reporter wohl ziemlich viel übernommen. Na Hauptsache, es wird wahrgenommen. Und läuft dann dort hoffentlich auch gut.

Even when they're fully clothed, there's a likable insouciance to the squad, with their casual attire and, in the case of the haoles, several centimeters of stubble. McGarrett, a Navy SEAL, can even call up old friends on aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf and access top-secret satellite feeds. The tropes borrowed from the buddy-cop playbook are likely also a draw for male viewers. The scriptwriters always manage to squeeze in five minutes of barely relevant banter between Steve and his partner, Danny "Danno" Williams. If you watch 10 episodes in a row, as I did, this bromantic back-and-forth (frequently conducted in a fast-moving vehicle) can get a little wearying, but it does provide a welcome dash of levity. McGarrett is dour and brooding—at various points in the series, characters have described him as "tall, dark, and uptight" and have commented on his "constipated look" and his "aneurysm face"—but in combination with charming cut-up Danny (the surprisingly compelling Scott Caan), he comes across as a good guy who's having a hard time dealing with his dad's recent death.
